Disasters & family farming: analysis in the Pastorinhas Settlement in Brumadinho/MG.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article in question analyzes the impacts of the dam collapse in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, not only on the physical destruction, but also on the socioeconomic structure of the city and its rural area. The focus is on the life and work of farmers from the Pastorinhas settlement, seeking to understand how the production and quality of products were affected and what the settlers' expectations are for their own future. Five farmers were interviewed to describe the difficulties faced post-disruption and the subsistence strategies adopted. It is concluded that the impacts go beyond the destruction caused by the wave of tailings mud and the lost human lives, generating problems for society, the economy and the environment.
