Abstract
O presente número da revista retrata um momento triste para Retratos de Assentamentos, porque uma das pioneiras e editoras em toda sua história fez sua passagem este ano, a sempre querida professora Dulce Consuelo Andreatta Whitaker.
Coragem e pioneirismo são duas características que marcaram a trajetória de Dulce. Ainda nos anos de chumbo do regime militar, a jovem professora da Rede Pública do Oeste Paulista desafiava os censores (e os delatores) de plantão, trazendo temas “polêmicos” para as salas de aula do que é, hoje, o Ensino Médio. A emancipação feminina ou a Guerra do Vietnã eram debatidas junto aos alunos com didatismo e para além do discurso oficial. Também foi corajosa e pioneira sua opção de, desde seu mestrado em sociologia da educação – defendido em 1979 – discutir criticamente a ideologia da sociedade urbano-industrial a partir daquilo que Dulce mesma definia como escola “urbanocêntrica”. Essa preocupação com o controle ideológico dos subalternos, em especial dos segmentos sociais do campo, se manteve como um fio condutor de sua reflexão desde meados da década de 1970....
