Estado e política fundiária no Brasil: Uma revisão da literatura, a história e suas referências ao mundo rural brasileiro da colonização aos dias atuais
Main Article Content
Abstract
This text aims to present an overview of the State’s position regarding land policy in Brazil, from colonization to the present day, based on a review of the literature and historical context. The land issue is one of the most relevant and controversial topics in Brazilian society, as it encompasses economic, social, environmental, and cultural aspects. The historical formation of Brazilian territory has been marked by the concentration of land in the hands of a few landowners, who have benefited from various legal and illegal mechanisms to safeguard their interests. This unequal land structure has led to conflicts and violence in rural areas, while also hindering the development of family-based and sustainable agriculture. Throughout the centuries, the Brazilian State has played different roles in regulating land issues—at times favoring large landowners, and at others promoting partial and limited agrarian reforms. The current land policy results from a complex interplay among various social actors, including the government, judiciary, legislature, social movements, non-governmental organizations, unions, corporations, and international bodies. This text seeks to analyze the main characteristics, challenges, and perspectives of land policy in Brazil, considering the historical, legal, institutional, and political aspects that shape it.
